The First Time

When you’re a real estate broker, there’s nothing quite as much fun as helping a really fun couple buy their first house.  That’s what I’m doing this week.

They saw the house on Sunday when it was held open.  We went back to see it together last night.   I got there early and met the owner and her dog.  I liked her and the dog – the owner’s Irish and has a lilting brogue, but I’m not sure about where the dog is from.

It’s a great house in Del Ray (Alexandria) and with new hardwood floors, and it will be the perfect place for them to replace their old furniture, start a family and generally have a wonderful life together.  The back yard will even work for their hound on those days when the weather sucks and they don’t want to walk him in the rain.

So, last night I called the agent to do the schmooze thing and I found out she was in Florida and would be back late tonight.

We met tonight to sign the contract.  My buyers were excited and nervous and had lots of questions – actually, these guys had really good questions.

The listing agent is back and is meeting with the sellers in the morning.  My fingers are crossed really hard, and I’ll be saying some prayers to St. Anthony (my grandmother’s patron saint of real estate – he finds things, including homes for first time buyers).

I’ll let you all know how this one turns out.  And it should turn out well in the end, because they used my lucky pen to sign the papers.  And the lucky pen makes the appropriate thing happen.
