Meeting Old Friends For The First Time

Last week, I had a ball. I went up to New York for the Inman Real Estate Connect. I was up there with a bunch of bloggers who were in some way involved in real estate, mostly other agents and lenders.

There are two places where I blog. One is this site, Captial Homes, and the other is on the Active Rain Network. Active Rain is a bunch of real estate professionals writing about all kinds of issues affecting our industry. We write posts and comment on each other’s stuff, and the whole experience has been fun and educational.

Over the last few months, I’ve really bonded with a lot of the other “Rainers”, and if I took a cross country trip in my Lexus, I’d have mooch places for food and shelter all over the country.

On a couple of occasions, I’ve had face-to-face meetings with some of my blogging buddies from Active Rain, and when we get together, it’s like we’re old friends. And last week was an opportunity to meet many of the people who have contributed to my education about the sub-prime mortgage crisis, trends in home staging, running my real estate practice like a business, and so much more. And we also share a lot about what makes a great “outside” blog – which would be Capital Homes for me.

And when I came back, the first idea I put into practice was to move my blog to it’s new home on WordPress. For the next week or so, I’ll be tinkering with it and going through a bit of a learning curve. And that learning curve is not insignificant for the Boomer blogger who forgot to have that teenage son who would be very handy right now. (Actually, I’ve been getting a lot of help and coaching from my favorite Boomer techie, David Henderson, who is a match for any youngster when it comes to this stuff – thank you, David!!)

So, I am about to try this new format for the first time! With any luck, I’ll even get it right! If not, I’ll have to make another call to Henderson!
