Motives

This week, I’m showing condos and townhouses in Northern Virginia. And I noticed something in the Multiple Listing comments that I haven’t seen in years. Many of them included the words “Motivated Sellers!” Some went even further, instructing colleagues to “Bring an offer. Bring any offer.”

Well, gee. One can pretty much assume that anyone who has a house or apartment for sale over the holidays is seriously interested in selling. At the same time, there are not a whole lot of buyers, or agents for that matter, on the streets between Thanksgiving and New Years.

I wondered. Did these motivated sellers authorize their agents to send this message? If they did, do they get that they are really saying, “Ignore our asking price! We’re desperate enough to sign almost anything”?

Perhaps it would be better for these comments to say “Motivated Listing Agent!”
